It’s One Thing To Show Up, Another To Come Back

By the end of the fast-paced stand-on-your-pedals warm up, I was beat. Why did I think spin class in this heat was a good idea? The pink spandex-clad women around me were ahead of the game. Their outfits and trim calves told me that I was the only new student. Everyone else knew it, too– The instructor blew my cover by shouting over the Latin beats about the girl who came all the way from the United States just to attend his class. Yeah, right. After repeatedly motioning at me with exaggerated inhalations and hand waving to “change my air” and drink water, the miraculously hairless instructor charged the man next to me with making sure I didn’t keel right over off the bike halfway through the class. An embarrassing, conspicuous start, perhaps… but at least they let me attend the class for free.
